About the Blog

This blog is my "gaming blog", as opposed to my hiking blog, or my paleontology blog, or my Street Fighter type games blog, or any of my other blogs that I decided were "off topic" for this blog.  For this blog, there's a number of recurring topics.  You can check out the tags list to get more specific, but at a higher level, here's what this blog is about:
  1. Setting design for my long-running current setting, DARK•HERITAGE (hence the name of the blog.)  This game is occasionally actually run as well; I've got a number of house-rules on how to do so.  See also the page titled. Dark•Heritage for more detail.
  2. I also tinker with some other setting design ideas here and there.  Two in particular are noteworthy, the ODD D&D setting, which uses pretty much all official D&D 3.5 edition rules, but which specifically disallows a lot of the iconic classes and races, to give a very unusual feeling setting.  Also, STAR WARS, which hopefully you're already familiar with.  My homebrew Star Wars development is focused on the setting 1,000 years after Return of the Jedi, so I can have time to have changed all kinds of things and introduce new and interesting threats to potential PCs.  I don't have a separate home for ODD D&D, but I do have a wiki for my STAR WARS homebrew at http://starwarsm20.wikispaces.com
  3. I also do a lot of general game-related talk, about the hobby of roleplaying games and some specific ones that I either play or am interested in playing.
  4. I've got a fair bit of reviews, of genre books of interest to gamers (in my opinion) and RPG material.  However, I don't do this nearly as often as I used to, and I often got around to reviewing books long after they were released (when I finally got around to buying them, usually.)  Because of this, don't look for this to be a significantly growing section of the blog, and everything on it is probably pretty old.
  5. I occasionally, but rarely, talk about some personal stuff, or other hobbies that don't necessarily intersect with gaming, fantasy and science fiction.  But rarely.  For the hobbies that I'm most tempted to talk about frequently, I've created parallel blogs, so as not to clog this up with topics that readers will find off-topic.  For personal stuff, I usually put that on Facebook, if I put it out there at all.  If you're interested in me personally, I'm already a bit worried about you.  Don't look me up on Facebook; I'm a terrible Facebook friend.  More than half the time, I'm talking about politics and social issues, and that's not very fun for anyone.  Also, if I don't actually know you personally and face-to-face, I won't accept your friend request anyway.
And I do, on occasion, actually post mechanics.  Some of them are adapted from OGC content.  Because of that, hey, I've gotta include the OGL.  Here it is.  Open content is designated as content that is in italics, blockquote and gray text.
